Wildfires raging in Canada’s eastern province of Quebec are impacting Major League Baseball’s schedule.
Major League Baseball (MLB) announced today (Sept. 9) that the game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Washington Nationals at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., has been postponed due to poor air quality from the wildfires in Canada. 메이저놀이터
According to MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball, after discussions between the two teams and medical and weather experts, it was determined that the game could not be played today. The game has been rescheduled for March 23.
This is the third major league game to be canceled due to the wildfires in Canada, following the Chicago White Sox-New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers-Philadelphia Phillies games on Aug. 8. Both Yankee Stadium, home of the Yankees, and Citizens Bank, home of the Philadelphia Phillies, resumed play on September 9, with conditions slightly better than the previous day.
Cities in the eastern U.S., including New York and Philadelphia, have recently experienced very poor air quality in the wake of the Canadian wildfires, with particulate matter levels reaching dangerous levels and many residents avoiding outdoor activities.
Washington is no exception. The DC city government has issued a “purple” alert, the second worst on the Air Quality Index (AQI).
The AQI quantifies air quality based on pollutant concentrations and is categorized on a scale of 0-500, with green, yellow, orange, red, purple, and reddish-brown being the most unhealthy, with purple (201-200) being extremely unhealthy for everyone, regardless of age or respiratory condition. The AQI measured at Nationals Park was 273.
As a result, all public schools in Washington were closed to students, and events scheduled in the city were postponed or canceled.
