Hyun-jin Ryu’s hometown Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Seattle Mariners in extra innings. Ryu Hyun-jin’s Toronto Blue Jays kept their fall baseball hopes alive as their division rivals, Seattle and the Texas Rangers, suffered back-to-back losses.
The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Seattle Mariners 6-2 in extra innings in the second game of a three-game series at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington, U.S., on Sunday.
The National League West-leading Dodgers improved to 90-57 on the season and clinched their second straight division title. Seattle, which lost its second straight, fell to 81-67. The losses came at a busy time for the Mariners, who dropped to the fourth wild-card spot in the American League.
It was a pitching battle between the Dodgers and Seattle on the mound. After four scoreless innings from starter Clayton Kershaw, rookie Emmitt Sheehan tossed a three-hit, five-strikeout complete game, while Seattle’s bullpen bounced back after five and a third scoreless innings from rookie Bryce Miller.
The game was still tied at 0-0 in the top of the 10th inning. With the bases loaded, Chris Taylor reached on an infield single to put runners on first and third. Jason Heyward flied out to right field, but pinch hitter Colton Wong finally broke the scoreless tie with a sacrifice fly to right field.
The Dodgers loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the 10th, getting Jered Kelenic to ground out to first and Josh Rojas to ground out to third on a fielder’s choice. With runners on second and third and two outs, the Dodgers appeared to be on the verge of victory, but Mike Ford gave up an RBI single to tie the game again at 1-1.
The Dodgers then loaded the bases on a double by J.P. Crawford and an automatic double by Julio Rodriguez, but Teoscar Hernandez grounded into a double play to send the game to the 11th inning.메이저놀이터

The Dodgers bats came alive again. Freddie Freeman struck out with the bases loaded in the 11th, but Will Smith drew an automatic walk and Max Muncy followed with an RBI single. An Ahmed Rosario walk loaded the bases, and Chris Taylor and Kike Hernandez followed with back-to-back RBI singles to put the game out of reach.
The Dodgers’ win over Seattle and Texas’ loss to the Cleveland Indians reignited the race for the American League wild-card spot. While Texas remained in second place, Ryu Hyun-jin’s Toronto moved past Seattle into third place, the final spot in fall baseball.
A midweek four-game sweep of Texas had cast a pall over the Jays’ postseason hopes, but a recent two-game winning streak has turned the tide, and a pair of back-to-back losses by rivals has given them renewed hope.
Toronto will try to make it three in a row on April 18 against the Boston Red Sox with Ryu Hyun-jin on the mound.
