Colombia advances to the Round of 16 with a dramatic equalizer.
Colombia’s Under-20 national team drew 1-1 with Senegal in the third match of Group C of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023 at the Estadio Ciudad de La Plata in La Plata, Argentina, on Aug. 28 at 6 a.m. ET. Colombia advanced to the round of 16 with two wins and a draw (7 points), while Senegal fell to fourth place with two draws and a loss (2 points).
Colombia deployed a 4-2-3-1 formation. Angel, Luna, Manyoma, Cortes, Torres, Puerta, Tanton, Mantiya, Pedroso, and Salazar started up front, with Marquinhos in goal.
Senegal countered with a 4-2-3-1 formation. Payet, Cek, P.Diouf, Diallo, Camara, Diarra, Basset, Sano, B.N’Diaye, and A.Diouf started, with M.N’Diaye in goal 스포츠토토.
Colombia controlled the early offense. In the 16th minute, Angel broke into the box and fired a left-footed shot that was saved by N’Diaye. Angel continued to take sharp shots. In the 19th minute, in front of the Senegal goal, Angel hit a left-footed turner that went wide to the right of the goal.
But it was Senegal who took the lead. In the 30th minute, Kamara took advantage of a mistake in the Colombian defense to advance and calmly finish with his right foot. Senegal continued to attack. In the 47th minute, Diouf broke forward and slid in a right-footed shot that was saved by Marquinhos.
Luck was not on Colombia’s side. In the seventh minute of the second half, Salazar sent in a cross from the left and Manyoma’s header hit the post. Then, in the 13th minute, a cross came in from the left and Angel tried to head it over the bar.
Colombia continued to attack. In the 20th minute, Angel unleashed a powerful left-footed shot that was saved by Ndiaye, and then Luna tried again but was denied by the Senegalese defense.
But in a dramatic moment, Colombia equalized. In the 50th minute, Cortes scored the equalizer with a chip shot. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, leaving Colombia in first place and Senegal in fourth.
