A 16-year-old Brazilian athlete made headlines by jumping barefoot at the Brazilian Athletics Championships and finishing first in her group in the semifinals.
Dos Santos, dubbed ‘Mato Grosso’s Usain Bolt’, has been barefoot in competitions because of his over 300cm shoe size and family circumstances.
When Dos Santos’ circumstances became known, global sports brand Puma promised to provide his equipment kit.
Dos Santos, who unfortunately failed to qualify for the 400m final, will resume ‘barefoot running’ in the 400m relay.
